HELP!! Throat Muscle SPasms

by medicalAnomaly, May 20, 2002 12:00AM
Please help - I periodically get spasms in some entity in my throat. It feels like when you have a cramp in your foot but it is in my throat (or neck). I often visiualize it on my vocal chords but it is not always in the same spot. It is usually on the left side but once it was on the right. The episodes are infrequent but when they happen they are intensely painful. I have no trouble breathing but swallowing is very difficult and extremely painful. If they last too long they aggravate nerves causing intenses pain on the same side of my head as the spasm (teeth, eyes, ears, head). They have happened during tense times but I have had many many other tenses times where I do not have a spasm. When I have them I choke down a lorazepam pill and within .5 - 1 hr the spasm eases. I have seen many drs and gotten many theories but no diagnosis and no advice on prevention. Theories: Esophageal spasms, misplaced migraines, something related to my psuedocholinesterase deficiency. No doctor I have seen has ever seen this before and I have not met anyone who has experienced something similar (believe me I ask everyone I know)
Please help, this is the worst thing I have ever had and I have had sever migraines for over 30 years.

Hi, this is a forum of people who have digestive disorders.  I believe you may need a neurologist.  I was treated for trigeminal neuraliga and the pain was similar as yours.  Later I was diagnosised with viral neuropathy.  Look for it on the net to see if you can find someone who can give you some information.  I hope this info can help you.
