. I had had the same pain previously which was resolved after a few hours with Tums, Zantac, etc but this pain lasted over 12 hrs. CT showed a 5.6 cm pancreatic cyst near the end of the pancreas and amylase
, MRCP was negative, EGD showed a hiatal hernia. Because the spleen was in the way, they removed my spleen and the pancreatic cyst at the same time. While in the hospital, there would be occ abdominal pain but a repeat CT was negative so they blamed it on post surgical pain. About 1 month later, the pain returned in the epigastric area. CT was again negative and my PCP ordered a HIDA scan with CCK which showed an ejection fraction of 3%. That was about 1-2 wks ago and the pain has not returned. I'm not in the mood to have another operation to remove the gallbladder but do you think it should be removed?
Nita, you may have to reconsider non-removal. With little-to-no ejection fraction, the bile remaining in the gallbladder is sitting and basically pooling/stagnating. In some cases, that condition can cause problems that can result in inflammatory processes being initiated in or around the gallbladder. Make sure to discuss the situation with you doctor.
