HIV RELATED LIVER PROBLEM/MEDS????????HELP!!

I have had HIV since 8/99 and started the "cocktail" 4/00 and on July 11, 2001 I brought myself to the ER because I had BAD sharp right pain (throbbing) lower right side.  The pain started 4 days before and I thought I strained a muscle but it got worse so I called 911 and went.  I had a TEMP OF 100.3 and the meds I was taking "could" cause liver toxcity.

Diagnosis was a fatty liver and Lactic Acidosis(due to the HI Med I was taking; Zerit(D4t).  My question/problem is that since I was off the meds my #'s were starting to decrease back to the normal range, then Friday, my doctor told me they were "slightly" going back up.  He took more and more tests and blood yesterday.  My thing is that I NEED to go back on HIV meds but if my liver is screwed up what now?

1.- I do not drink at all
2.- I do not take any pain meds.
3.- I do however take 2mg of Klonopin a day and my Dr's claim this has no effect.
4.- I was "exposed" to HEP B but I am also immune to it as well

Hi Joey,

Please don't think that no one thinks your question is worthwhile and thats why no one is answering.  Your question is one that not many people can relate to, just because its your specific reaction to a medication.  Don't worry though!:-D  Your doctors will be able to find a medication that both your HIV and your liver can tolerate.  You've only had HIV for two years.  I'm not saying that its good to have HIV, but you couldn't have gotten it at a better time.  Thier making new medications and progress, and thier researching it like crazy.  They'll find something for ya hun!!!!!!!!!!  Let me know how you're doing if you ever come back on.  A friend of my family had HIV for MMMMMAAAANNNNYYYYYYY years.  He was pretty sick for a while, and he got on some new medication and you would NEVER knew he had it.  He says he even forgets he has it.  I'll see if i can find anything out from him about your situation.  Good luck and don't worry!
