Has Anyone Ever Gotten Rid Of Their Gastritis?

by Jason27, May 07, 2002 12:00AM
I'm just wondering if anyone has EVER gotten rid of their gastritis? If so, how and how long did it take? I'm getting a nnoyed and it's starting to drive me crazy! When it comes to talking with the doctor about this condition it's like talking to a brick wall. They have absolutely NOTHING to say. I'm about to take a trip to philly in hopes of finding one of the "Top" docs there. I'm sure they'll help......P***** off.....very uncomfortable....and tired of it!

yes i took 400 mgs tagamet 4 x per day and stayed on a bland diet (NO alcohol or caffeine. also took Konsyl (fiber) to help with bloating and keep the bowel moving. it took about 3-4 weeks before i felt relief and then staying away from alcohol/caffeine for about 6 months. just be patient...by the way, i was diagnosed etc by a gastroenterologist, not a GP...

WOW, sixteen hundred mg a day? That seems like an awful lot. I guess you had too much acid huh? LOL I was told to take 80mg, but am only taking 40 as I found it kind of hard to digest food at 80. I guess I should go back to the 80.

Thanks!

I had moderate gastritis for 5 or 6 years.  When I lost weight, cut out alcohol and caffiene, the symptoms were not as sever and subsided.  I still get the symptoms every now and then, but since I made the changes things are much better.

What is your symptoms of gastritis?  I had an egd yesterday and they said I had gastritis.  I already take zantac and before that protonix.  Does gastritis cause pain in your chest?  I get pain in my chest that scares me and I was wondering if any one else with gastritis did?  Thanks in advance for your comments.

I had chest pains from aspartame (aka Equal, Nutrasweet or phenylalanine) found in a lot of diet foods/drinks.

Gastritis causes a burning sensation in the pit of your stomach. (up high) Sometimes it's crampy as well. You really have to cut out the alcohol, cola, smoking, spicy food, etc, etc. You have to give the stomach time to heal. A bland diet for a while is a good idea. As far as chest pain, this is usually an indicater of GERD. Acid reflux. There's some great posts on this over at heartburn-help.com Have you had tests to check for gerd? Keep up with the PPI's and make sure you have a good GI!

Hi Jason,

I too have been dealing with Gastritis for "too long".  I feel your frustration.  I am curious to know your symptoms and what the doctor has you taking currently.

Thanks
