Has eosinophilic esophagitis been linked with other auto inflammatory diseases?

by help4son, Feb 07, 2009 12:38AM
My 15 year old son was diagnosed with EE while trying to rule out IBD back in 2007.  He has been suffering chronically for two years with flares of extreme fatigue, mouth ulcers, skin rashes (papules, pustules, and hives), facial swelling around eyes, heart racing, loss of appetite, joint/muscle pain and swelling, etc.  He is typically asymptomatic for EE except during a flare.  All indicators for inflammation come back negative.  Do you know if EE has ever been linked with any other conditions that might possess these symptoms.  It is hard to treat and deal with a condition without a diagnosis.

From what I understand of the literature on this subject, the food allergy antigens can trigger the same cascade of molecular factors that are activated in other issues, such as Crohn's disease. So the outcome can be the same in presentation, but the cause is not. It suggests that there is no link between the two conditions. Hopefully, you've discovered the triggers and are making sure he stays away from those foods.
