Have UC still bleeding

Hello, about 5 years ago I was diagnosed with ulerative colitis. I was put on asacol and could not afford it so I was placed on sulfasalazine. I have had no problems in nearly 5 years. About 2 months ago I started bleeding (stool) and was given a colonoscopy. The Doctor asked if I had ever had any of my intestine removed, and I said no. Why would he ask that? he said it was not cancer, but ordered a small bowel follow through.

Since the colonoscopy (about a month ago) I have been bleeding just the same or even worse. I was put on prednisone and dycyclomine(sp?). I am goin to the bathroom a lot and there is blood every single time. It will come so fast sometimes that I almost do not make it to the bathroom.

My question is, why am I still bleeding, and what will the small bowel follow through determine? I have a friend with UC who had to have some of his intestine removed. Will I have to as well. I mean, I went 5 years with no problems no it is bad as ever and I am bleeding on a daily basis.

Thanks
