Healing of a stricture

by satmat, Dec 02, 2002 12:00AM
My husband was diagnosed with having a stricture in the lower part of his esophagus 6 weeks ago after having a complete obstruction of food removed via a scope.  He had only had symptoms of food getting stuck for about a year - no heartburn.

My question is:  will this stricture heal?  It was due to scar tissue.  His doctor did not recommend doing dilation, so I'm not sure if it wasn't bad enough for that or not.

Will the medication (Nexium - 40mg a day) heal a stricture?  I just wasn't sure what happens with the scar tissue.  He has also been told to watch his diet and he takes Carafate twice a day.

Any information would be very helpful.
