Help me please! Teen with severe digestive problems
This is very long but I'm desperate and need help. I'm a teenage girl, and I've been suffering with digestive problems for a long time to the point were it affects my daily life. My first problem is I have chronic constipation. I can't go to the bathroom for sometimes two weeks and I also have, I know its sounds gross... severe gas
pains and me overall feeling pretty crappy. My second problem is something I can get once every two months or twice a week depending on what I consume. Although I eat very very healthy, sometimes I guess I eat something that my stomach doesn't agree with and literally 15 mins to 30 mins later, I have such excruciating severe pain in my upper abdomen. I cant specifically tell where the pain is coming from because its so severe its feels like my whole upper abdomen right under my ribcage is throbbing. The pain makes it difficult for me to walk, feel faint and I usually end up doubled over. Its spreads to my back wrapping around the ribcage. The pain increases or decreases with position. I find it hurts the least when I'm sitting with my head
and when I press on it I hear gurgling and sloshing, when I move. Like my stomach is filled with acid or something. A lot of times this will lead to violent puking. But I usually try to keep it down. It lasts for a long time, sometimes 24 hours and sleep and rest is the only way to get rid of it. I've been dealing with these problems for about 4-5 years. I went to the doctor but he was pretty much an idiot and was of no help to me. I did get a procedure done and they didn't see any ulcers. But I'm wondering what this could be and how it can connect with my constipation and lower abdomen problems. I really need help, I just want to be a normal teenager!
Hi, jayne1818 -
Omg - that is excruciating what you're describing. Can't be that good either esp. for teenage girl. I'm in my early 30's, female dealing with chronic pancreatitis. It's not cool at all to be young and ill. And NO, I am not old -- early 30's is not old. K? LOL
My suggestions:
1) Find another doctor who will run more tests on you
2) Document EVERY THING EVERY DAY. What you eat, how much, the time, and then the reaction.
3) Go to walmart or target pharmacy. Take 2 senna per day. I'd ask the pharmacist there at the store if it is OK for teens to take it.
I take senna due to pain mediciations make me constipated (really hard stool and really looooong bowel movements that take almost an hour to pass). I know, gross details.
ANYHOW -
Take the senna, then follow the other steps.
My son(15) has motility issues. He has gastroparesis, his stomach does not empty the food out fast enough and so it can start to ferment. He also has constant constipation, instestines not pushing out fast enough either. Maybe you can check into getting a gastric emptying test done, that is the test they ran on my son to diagnos the gastroparesis. He is on medication for that.
As for the constipation, his doctors have him taking 2 capfuls of miralax a day, plus on Saturday and Wednesday's he takes 2 ducolax to keep things moving and a little softer. Even with these meds, he only goes to the bathroom every 5 days or so. Without the miralax and ducolax, he only goes every 1.5 to 2 weeks.
Maybe you should do a complete clean out to get things started. For that they had my son take 2 ducolax, followed by 10 capfuls of miralax(1 capful every 15 minutes for 2.5 hours), then 2 more ducolax. It wasn't pleasant, but it did the trick cleaning him out.
Thanks so much, that definitely sounds like what I have, or at least something like it. I'm sick right now and the food is just not digesting, it's been sitting in my stomach for two days. I went to the ER tonight because I was in severe pain and they ruled out everything but the stomach. They referred me to a gastroenterologist and they said it seems like severe gastritis, ibs, gerd, hopefully the doctor can shed some light on the situation. Deff gonna try taking miralax.
It sounds to me like you have a combination of IBS (irritible bowel syndrome) and gallbladder issues. I would see a GI doctor and ask for a test called a hida scan. This will look at how your gall bladder is functioning and possibly reproduce your symptoms. in the mean time, try taking FiberCon supplements and Pepogest for your stomach/intestines. Definately moderate the fat in your diet; lots of fat aggravates symptoms.
Hi I just found out that the pain under my breast bone that starts from there that goes later goes to my stomach then comes out like gas is heartburn but my stomach did that gurgling too!
I have to use a hot water bottle as it helps but I have used black walnuts and it helped so I was thinking could it be that I have worms .I have used beer Cores light after I eat my two main meals as it digests my food or at least takes the pain away . I have use digestive enzymes
as they worked only the beer is less expensive for now!
Sweets make it act up as stress even when I have juiced extracted organic apples I'd still get that gurgling and pain so I thought maybe I might have worms so I eat only enough to survive.' losing weight from 180-170lbs in only a few months then I went down to one or two sizes 155lbs in a size 14 now a 12 I eat flax seed cookies and even some chips I use Stevia in my Chamomile tea which helps the pain.
I eat 1=2 lean Cusines and eat a good breakfast.I take evening primrose too in the middle of a meal as 3 flax seed capsuls = 1 tlbsp liquid after a meal this prevents fat from coming in as the later strips of the fat of your body which helps you lose weight.
I can't really chew my food good because a lot of my teeth were extractred as I plan on
in a year to get my dentures So can you help me with a Natural Alternative approach.
Thanks DJ
What can you do to help varicose veins ? i heard the horse chestnut herb is good but can you take it if you have high blood pressure Also if you have it is the sign that your blood is to thick? Is that why people take garlic?
?Thanks
DJ
I heard that it's better to take oat bran & flax seeds so I have been using it and it helps with constipation as menamusil contains artificial sugar that causes cancer like A'spartame that splenda goes under like suculrose not sucrose and I don't trust anything that's not natural as I am Alternative & Organic and have gone green !!!!
What about Salba its new and better than flax seed and has omega 3 fatty acids in it ?
Thanks again DJ
