Hemmo-Cult???

by ALybella, Oct 18, 2006 12:00AM
DUe to blood visibly seen on the stool, I have had about 6 hC performed within the last 6 months.  The one before last, the Dr. checked it within seconds and said it was negative and threw it out.  After about 15 minutes I picked it out from the garbage and it was clear.  I proceeded to put it in my purse, the next morning as I went to throw it out, it had a spot of blue in it.  The spot had not been visible the previous day.  Of course I freaked and had another HC today which was negative as well.  The Dr. assured me it was from some sort of oxidation and it been in my purse.  Is that true?  I also called the company and they said after the alloted time, the results are invalid.  CAn I conclude they are negative?  Also the Dr. said I had many inbternal hemmorhoids, can that be causing the blood, even perhaps the HC reading?  ANy impput, would you consider the HC negative even after some blue a day after?  The one I just took today was negative.
Blood work shows HG at 13.0 despite 20 weeks of p[regnancy and no prenatal votamins.  Dr. said all labs, were excellent, inclusing chem, cbc, LFT's and Amylase and Lipase.  Only nthing low was albumin, Dr. said it was becasue of my stage in the preg, it read a 3.2, can preg. cause the drop in albumin?I am 30 years old no family history know since greadgradnparents of colon trouble.  The Dr. said he is sure I do not have colon cancer to stop having those thoughts

The hemocult is not a 100% accuate test for colon cancer.  Normally if there was blood present, it would show up immediately after dropping the solution on the cart.

Repeating the set of tests can be considered.  However, if there is any question about whether the cards are positive or not, I would just go ahead with a colonoscopy for a more comprehensive evaluation.

This option can be discussed with your personal physician.

Also my purse was full of iron pills, perhaps coming in contact with the HC, can this have caused the change

Hi there, I remember you posting some concerns awhile back. You are pregnant now? Congrats!

If your doctor is certain you do not have colon issues, just try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Stress is not good for you or your baby.
