Heria with Bloating

Hi,

I was recently diagnosed with a Hernia (intially inguinal, now Haitus). The last few days I have suffered severe and painful bloating after even a small very meal - e.g. two slices of bread. If I'm lying down wehn this occurs then I sometimes also get palpitations.

I am concerned that this might be signs of constriction, but my GP doesn't think so although he's only done a physical exam, no imaging or other tests. The hernia opp isn't for 8 weeks, I can put up with the discomfort and diet until then but:

a) Should I be concerned enough to go private and get the opperation now or other tests done?
b) Is it ok to fly?

Your advice would be appreciated.

Neil

So, it basically looks like gas in your stomach.
For detailed diet you may search online for "low fodmap diet". This may reduce bloating to some extent but probably won't cure you.

Upper abdominal bloating and burping (?) may be due to:
- H. pylori infection of the stomach
- Gastroparesis
- Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)

There's a test for each condition. In meantime it may help you if you avoid sugary food (any sugars: glucose, fructose, lactose and sucrose).
