Hernia surgery

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, and am not even sure if there is where I should be posting.  I have an incisional hernia the size of a grapefruit.  I have to have surgery on Wednesday to repair it (he is using mesh).  He is going to try to do it as an outpatient, but due to some other problems, they may have to move me to the hospital to stay a few days (doing it at a surgery center).  My question is, how big would the incision have to be?  How long of a recovery should I expect.  Any information will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Kasie

i hope you had a good recovery i am 6 weeks post op from a subcostal mesh repair from an open choly (seems i was allergic to the absorbable suture so the muscle did not heal origionally) my hernia was the size of a melon and i am left with a 7 inch scar now. i have a large seroma that is as large as the origional hernia - they tell me it could take up to 6 months to reabsorb. i am back at work now but still cant drive. its beggining to get me down. i just want my life back!!
