Hernia

Hello, I am a 46 yr old female and in Oct 2010 I had to have emergency surgery on my colon. My colon ruptured and I was almost septic. They had to remove a portion of my colon and I had to have a colostomy bag for 5 months. In March 2011, I had it reversed but I developed a small hernia.  I had no problems until recently when I helped pick up a 19 inch tv, and helped take a 4 draw dresser down and then up some stairs. A small pertrution ac-cured, but I really do not feel much pain. Can I wear something to pull it back in? and also can I do some situps to lose some weight?

According to eMedecineHealth - "In general, all hernias should be repaired unless severe preexisting medical conditions make surgery unsafe. The possible exception to this is a hernia with a large opening. Trusses and surgical belts or bindings may be helpful in holding back the protrusion of selected hernias when surgery is not possible or must be delayed. However, they should never be used in the case of femoral hernias.

Avoid activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure (lifting, coughing, or straining) that may cause the hernia to increase in size."
