Hiatus Hernia and Operation

Hiatus Hernia and Operation

Afternoon all, I am really hoping that someone can advise or confirm what I believe....it'll make more sense once you read and I apologise for the length of the post in advance.

I am 25 years old, and 8 years ago I had an endoscopy which showed that I had a 4-5cm Hiatus hernia, and that my oesophagus had started to 'erode' due to acid.

Roll on 8 years (with no medication) and things are getting worse, I hardly eat, I literally have to force myself to eat a childs size meal once a day.  I have no energy due to lack of food, and I am starting to loose weight, especially in the last 6 months.  I really struggle to eat certain foods, like bread, potatoes, chips, pasta etc as  it feels like it is literally stuck in my throat, and feel as if I can not breathe, I have to gulp down water to push it down.  I also have a lot of acid, feels as if I have popping candy in the back of my throat :(

Anyways after a medical with my occupational health at work I decided enough was enough.  I went to my doctors who has told me to take multi vitamins, and has prescribed me a high dosage of medication to give my gullet a rest!  I have always been referred back to a specialist.  I told the doctor that I wanted the hernia removed as it is affecting my day to day life.

What do you think the next stages will be?  Do you think that they are likely to operate  (which I really want)?

So far I have been on medication for 1 week and no improvement.

Thanks

If I loose much more weight ill be a walking skeleton, I have no energy. I want a happy healthy life and am not prepared just to put up with it.  I have dreams and ambitions I want to achieve and a hernia is making it ten times harder. I appreciate what your saying, that is your opinion, it is what it is - yes, but if I can have it surgically removed then I will.

I'm in the uk - so don't know how different it'd be.  Sorry if I miss interpretted your statement, its just I don't want to be bogged down by it, its gone as far to cause oral birth contraception to fail, falling pregnant and loosing my baby because of this bloody hernia! What else are they going to do for you?
