Hiatus hernia a hole?

Hiatus hernia a hole?

I was diagnosed with haveing a medium sized Hiatus Hernia. The Dr. showed me a picture of my hernia and said its a hole in the tissue seperating my stomach from my lungs and esophagus. But in everything I read about hiatus hernias I am not finding anything that talks about a hole. In the picture there is a big hole so what does that mean? What kind of hernia is that. I also have barretts esophogus as well.

The type of hernia your doc is describing is called a paraesophageal hernia. You may want to do some research on that form of hernia.
