High AST ALT levels

by paras318, May 27, 2009 01:43AM
Dear doctor,
I had suffered jaundice last year in September and was briefly hospitalised. My highest count of bilirubin was 6.4 and proportionaltely high AST, ALT levels. I was asked to come for a review in Jan 09 by the physician. During this period, I resorted to no physical stress, did not take alcohol and non veg diet. However, My AST ALT levels were found high ( almost double the upper limit). I was again asked to come for review in may. My tests results this time again showed high ast and alt levels (53 and 63 respectively) . Bilirubin was also 3.3 and 1.63 (got this test done twice). Ultra sound showed everything normal, Hb- 13.3%, TLC - 8400 and HBsAg as negative. In last six months, I have been involved in sports and ve been regular in work outs, jogs etc. I do not ve any symptoms and feel as strong and fit as used to before I was diagnosed with Jaundice. I now a little worried that despite taking the precuations as suggested by my physician, my AST, ALT, Bilirubin levels are much above normal. Could you please suggest any remedy about this abnormalcy , the possible medications/ precautions.
I shall be grateful. In anticipation of your reply.

Thanks.

Have you been tested for Hep C?  AST and ALT can go up and down for many reasons. Medication, Alcohol ect.... Everything goes through the liver and can cause these levels to rise..... But I would suggest a Hep c panel done to make sure.
