How long does it take to get over gastritis?

by cmkss, Jun 07, 2001 12:00AM
I have had, well the doctor thinks anyway, a case of gastritis.  Mine was self-inflicted.  I was taking migraine meds and mixed them with some vitamin pills, which I thought were pretty benign.  After that, I started in with this nauseated feeling and a dull pain in the upper left quadrant of my stomach.  Sometimes the pain radiates around to my back.  The doctor gave me Protonix, but it doesn't seem to help me much.  The feeling is still there.  When I eat, it makes me feel somewhat better.  Then at times I can eat, and I feel terrible.  The migraine medicine I was taking was Effexor, which can cause stomach pain, but I was taking Reglan and Protonix to counteract the effect of the Effexor.  I cannot get anything done for the stupid stomach pain.  Does anyone have any input for me.
Much appreciated,
Melanie

Check out the other threads for stomach pain on the right side. I'm fed up too and wish they'd find something treatable.

Try other things in combination with your medicine to lower stomach acid. Firstly always take it first thing in the morning and don't eat for over 2 hours after, try to frink milk to neutralise stomach acid, avoid orange juice etc (i.e. acid foods), and deffinately don't smoke or drink alcohol. My dull pain didn't go away with drug alone (lanzoprazole) but in combination with these simply lifestyle changes it went quickly. Hope it helps
