How much of my large intestine can I have removed before noticing a change in bowel habits?

I may be having part of my large and small intestines removed due to chron's disease. I am wondering how much of the large intestine one can lose before experiencing an increase in the frequency of bowel movements.

I underwent a total colectomy six years ago for torrential diverticular bleeding and, in response to another medhelp patient's question, I posted my own experiences (including bowel frequency) on:-

For a partial resection, I suppose you will notice some effect but not as dramatically as for a total resection.
