Hyperhidrosis?

by 21 Male, Nov 12, 2004 12:00AM
I started using cocaine about two years ago. I was using it heavily.  Everytime I would use the drug I would experience an enormous amount of sweat and unpleasant body odor. The problem got worse and I began experiencing a lot of moisture in the anal region. This moisture was extremly odorous and prevented me from everyday activities. Upon the drug entering my system, my mouth would not stop salivationg, my entire body would sweat and emit a very bad odor, especially the anus.  This moisture from the anus was not like sweat. It was sticky and filmy. The odor got so bad that I couldn't be in a room with people.  Noticing this problem stems from the narcotic, I went to rehab and got clean, hoping that this problem would go away and continue my life.  After four months, the problem still persists.

I went to a doctor for help and he said it was gas and gave me Levbid (Hyoscyamine) which helped a little. I started doing research on my own and discovered my problem might be Hyperhidrosis. In the summer, I couldn't leave the air conditioner.  An open window would cause me to sweat. I couldnt even go outside. Now that temperarature has gone down, the sweating has subsided somewhat.  These are all symptomes of Hyperhidrosis but whats contradictory is all the filmy moisture in the anal region.

My hemroidal bundals till this day are covered with this filmy moisture. The doctors keep giving me diferent medicine which do not help. Now that its cool, the sweating has subsided but the moisture inside the anus has not and neither has the odor. It is a scary thought to think I might have to live with this my entire life, since I have not recieved anything to help this problem.

As stated previously, I think this problem occurered because of drug use, but shouldn't it have gone away after I detoxed and stayed off for months now? It might be Hyperhidrosis,  but everything I read on it, it never included anything anal related.  And when it did, it was described as none odorous sweat. Mine is more life a slippery liquid discharge.  What does this sound like to you? What can this discharge be from? What are the treatments for anal discharge? Can this discharge be caused by drug use? I know people that have been using this drug for 5 - 10 years and not experienced what I experienced after a couple of months. Can this be some kind of secretion from an organ?  I have had endonoscopy, colonoscopy and the doctors said it was all normal and nothing was wrong with me.

I have had this problem for six months now. I take three showers a day and still have a bad odor. Till this day, the anal region is sticky and filed with odorous moisture. How would you treat this, since all the doctors I went to didn't know what was wrong and did nothing to help except give me pills (Levbid)and powder (Cholestyramine) that they cliam helps absorb moisture. My life is at a complete stand still and I would greatly appreciate a detailed reply and thoughts about this matter.

Tough to say without examining you.  As you know, there are sweat glands in the anal region - certainly an infection or hyperhidrosis can exacerbate the problem.  I am not aware of the discharge stemming from cocaine use.

About 1 percent of the population suffer from idiopathic (i.e. without a clear cause) hyperhidrosis.  There are some treatments to consider - this can include various prescription antiperspirants, iontophoresis (a procedure where sweat glands can be blocked), and more experimental treatments such as botulinum toxin.

You may want to discuss these options with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I was reading the above comment and have been suffering with a similar condition, although not quite the same...with me it definately seems like more like sweat.  I have been a heavy drinker over the years, and am now attempting to cut down, and have also over the past year had problems with anxiety and depression, but they seem to be gradually going too.  I also get sweaty palms pretty much all the time, and sometimes my anus will bleed a little bit.  The obvious problem with sweating down there is that it feels like I'm the only one in the world, and it's so debilitating to the point where it doesn't seem like anything is worth trying or doing, so I would be extremely grateful for some advice.  Thank you.
