I am 26 yr old male

by Hoss1981, May 10, 2008 05:29PM
Six months ago I was diagnosed with Barrett's. I was diagnosed 11 years ago with Crohn's and have had two bowel resections for that. My GI is very aggressive in treating and watching my Crohn's and in doing a EGD he found the BE. At the time of that EGD he said he wanted to redo in 3 months as it was not conclusive for dysplasia. When he repeated it 2 months ago he said there was dysplasia and he wanted to do the BARRX procedure which is burning the lesions off the inner esophagus. After insurance approved I had the procedure done May 5, 2008. I was sent home that night but once the General Anesthetic wore off, the pain was horrendous. 911 was called and I was admitted back into the hospital for 2 days. I am still in incredible pain stemming from deep in my chest/esophageal area. After having a horrible attack of violent vomiting, my GI called in an RX for Dilaudid for pain.
He said we will have to do this procedure every 6 weeks. I can not go through another week like this so he said we will discuss admitting me for a few days instead of sending me home. I also have a Hiatal Hernia.
Has anyone else had this procedure and did you also suffer with this kind of pain?

I do know I am young to have this disease, being told it's normally in older patients, seldom in a 26 year old. I am also understanding that dysplasia is the stage before adenocarcinoma. Am I understanding this correctly? I take 40 mg Prevacid twice daily now.
Thanks for any input any of you may have!
Dennis
