I can't Poop

Hi, I'm 14 years old and I have been going through constipation for a long time. Ever since I was 5 or 6, I have been trouble going to the bathroom. It seems as in my younger years, most would say I went to the bathroom with "marble" pieces of stool. Over the years, it has been on and off. Last summer, I thought I had finally got rid of the problem and was very happy. About a month ago, I had very bad stomach cramps. I went into the doctor, and I was perfectly normal. Until they did a X-ray, and found a lot of stool in my stomach. It had no were else to go, so was piled up in my stomach. My doctor told me to take laxatives and stool soften. I took both, in a matter of days I was successfully going to the bathroom very good! But, I just noticed I haven't gone to the bathroom in 3 days. I increased the laxative serving like my doctor told me too, and still no results. You are only suppose to take stool softens for a week, to help your body get use to pooping again. But, my doctor said if having problems to take half of the serving if past the first week.

Tonight I have tried new things, like eating more veggies. I ate quite a few carrots, and also drank some black Lipton tea hoping to get movement. I am not overweight or under, but I am not the most active person. I did 200 jumping jacks to get my body moving and hopefully to get a bowl movement.

Now, the a problem is I NEVER DRINK WATER. Yes I know, your saying "well, almost everything has water in it!" I drink lots of soda, but never water plain. I'm not sure why, I don't like the taste of plain water. I have been trying to drink as much water as possible, but it takes me literally 10-20 minutes to drink a glass with exercise involved. I eat very good, but I was told that meat doesn't help that your eating it. I'm not sure what to eat to help, as my doctor told me not to eat apples/bananas, but it seems everyone says that they help.

If you have any advice for me, please comment. Please don't joke around with this, as this is a serious issue for me. Thanks!

BTW- I have IBS, Diverticulits and GERD, had my gallbladder out as well. Have had endoscopy, Upper GI and colonoscopy. Have dealt with it all for years and I am only 46 yrs old. I have found when my Gerd is feeling so painful like a heart attack, to take tylenol and liquid Malox I keep in fridge. Also, lay on one side, then roll over to other side to burp up the gas for instant relief if possible. I take sertraline for IBS, and works great for me. I have alot less bouts of diahrrea now. For Diverticulitis, I have to completely stay away from ALL NUTS and POPCORN!! Which is what put my in hospital when I found out I had the disease! For life long maintenance, I find that I have to eat what doesnt make me hurt afterwards. Like fruits and vegetables are easier to digest if they are cooked. Potates, rice and oatmeal are easy on me. Chicken seems to digest better than any other meat. I stay away from dense meat like pot roast...ugh would be sick for days after eating it. I can eat cheeses and cottage cheese okay. I drink tea, since I don't like water much. I drink warm peppermint tea to relieve indigestion. I know I will be sick later if I eat food that is either too spicey, tomato based, too dense, has regular milk in it, or if it has seeds of any kind!! I don't always make the right choices.....but I try!! I will not let it rule my life. A Texas saying "It just is what it is!"  Wishing good health for Everyone!!!!!

My son is 10, going on 11 yrs old. He, too, has had bowel problems since he was 5. He would hold his poop until he soiled himself and had to go to the bathroom. His Dr. kept telling me he would grow out of it. His Dad and I divorced at that time, and we thought it was from emotional stress.  Well, he never got better, it's worse! I picked my son up from his Dad's a week ago today with a terrible rash on his bottom. He's had it for 3 weeks!!! Screaming in pain when he went to the bathroom. I took him straight to Dr. and he was diagnosed with a severe yeast infection and got a RX for cream to put on him till rash is gone. Now a week later, still screaming when he poops, screaming when I wipe him, and crying with tummy spasms. Took him back to Dr. yesterday. Diagnosed with chronic constipation! Dr. is putting him on 4 tsp daily of Miralax to "clean him out". Then continue laxative until we can retrain his bowels and habits to have at least one soft bowel movement daily with no pain. She said he may be on a laxative for few months, a year or longer! She gave me Information material on recurrent constipation. In the material, the symptoms describe my son completely. And he doesnt drink much water either. Reading material suggest at least 32 oz of water daily...minimum. Higher fiber foods to eat are pears, strawberries, apples. Vegetables are: sweet potatos, pinto-lima-kidney or black beans, baked potato, corn, peas, and raisin bran cereal is high in fiber. Also, says to sit on toilet for 5-10 minutes after every meal to train your colon to have a bowel movement. He did not get this way in a week, and will take a while to retrain him on what it feels to have a bowel movement. But so happy I finally found out what is wrong with him. Material also says it doesnt hurt to be on a laxative for long periods of time. More important to have regular soft bowel movements. We are only on week one of all this new treatment. Will let you know how it's going. Good Luck!!!!

Take the supplement Swiss Kriss. It is completely natural, and you can take it for the rest of your life if you need to. Take as many pills as needed (it says only 1-2, but my doctor told me I can take as many as I need). They will help you tremendously, and they are natural, so your body won't become dependent on them. You need to drink water with them, that's part of your problem. Try to get some down with the pills. They will cure you.

Yes constipation is a serious issue, especially at a younger age. I am 80. Till the age of 75, I never had a constipation. I was doing a yogic kriya (Yoga action) named as Agnisar kriya. This practice was done in the bathrroom itself. I did this for 30 yrs without missing a day. After 75 I did have some problem and digestive system was disturbed. If you have yoga class, accecible, you may contact yoga teacher. or search for Agnisar kriya, Shankh prakshalan, by adding some more postures(Asans) you will improve your health on all counts. You will have to drink water while doing Sankh prakshalan. You may take psyllium powder. It is known as Muscilage as well. It is a natural fiber.Sorry for a tardy reply. You will have clear idea from website on yoga.
