I forgot somthing

by Mother__0, Jul 13, 1998 12:00AM

My husbands side of the family has Diverticulitis, irritable bowel, & cancer of the colon.
My son never had a problem with any of these.
Dear Mother,
If no distinct pathology was noted in the surgical specimen, another possible explanation for the perforation could be that perhaps your son inadvertently swallowed an object with sharp edges or a caustic substance which made its way to the sigmoid colon and caused a perforation. However, it would be very difficult to prove this theory. The diseases which you listed as ones that are present on your husband's side usually occur in older patients. Good luck to you.
