I have just encountered this site and felt a little bit confident after knowing that I am not alone, and people have found ways to their solutions. I hope I will solve my problem too.
I release smells. Not only that, my breath also stinks and because your ears, nose and mouth are connected, you can smell it with my mouth closed. I brush my teeth once sometimes twice a day and regardless of how good I brush and how long I brush, my breath stinks. So people are thinking that I am a nasty girl who do not brush and fart always.
My social life is non-existent. I was emotionally forced to stop going to school and working due to this happening to me.
I went to my family doctor and had a series of tests done. I took an allergy test and found out I am allergic to shrimp and another test to see if I had either Crohn's or Celiac disease which came back negative. So the doc told me I have IBS and gave me a 60-day prescription of Bentyl and Zoloft (did not work). About 5-6 months later, I went back to get a referral to see a Gastroenterologist. That next week, I had a ultra scan (routine abdomen) done and there was a lot of gas. The doctor later told me I had acid reflux and gave me some sample pills of Prilosec OTC and a list of things to add to my diet (fiber, fruits etc) They all hear to me but consider it to not being serious, they do only some routine tests like blood test and ultra scan. But none of them helped me. I'm so tired of living like I can't go anywhere or do anything because of what's going on. In about another 2 weeks, I will be going to yet another specialist. Do you think I should get a colonoscopy done? I would like to have an oral exam done to actually see what's going on because there's obviously a problem.
symptoms and observations:
I feel that I release more gas when I sit.
I always have an urge to push like there's a lot of pressure.
I release foul smelling gas whether I eat or starve.
I have wetness near my anal region.
My breath also smells bad.
I don't know what to do now.
Can anybody throw some light on my problem?
Thank you very much in advance.
I hope we all will find some solution to this life ruining problem.
There is a possibility that it might be related to an uncommon genetic disorder - one that produces a 'whole-body' odor that can be described in a variety of ways. Some think it smells 'fishy' while others describe it differently. It's known clinically as trimethylaminuria and is caused by excessive amounts of the compound trimethylamine (TMA) within the body. TMA is produced with digestion of foods rich in choline -- including saltwater fish, eggs, liver and certain legumes, like soy and kidney beans.
A defect in a gene hinders the body's ability to metabolize TMA into odor-free compounds.
There's a group at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philly that has studied it and I believe they know more about it than many. But docs are now slowly learning about it. You might want to check into the subject and see if it might be what you're experiencing.
Sorry to hear about that, been going through a similar thing, I am a few years older than you and I suspect Candida overgrowth, Find out information on Candida overgrowth you will be suprised how bad things get.
I hope you get some infirmation and get well soon, I ma going to totry this candida diet and hopefully will be fine soon.

Wow, I just ran across a website talking about TMA not too long ago and yes, sadly I believe that's what I have :'( I will be going to a specialist soon and I will mention this to her. Thank you so much! :)
I agree with both of the above comments. Here in the UK we do have specialists who deal with this and with the treatment, the results have been very good.
You could also use the Maya clinic symptoms checker to see if the condition can lead you to some other possible conditions, that when you see your doctor, you will have an array of options to check with your doc. just visit
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/symptom-checker.
By the way, developed a very strong halitosis too and I have been to specialists several times but seems they have linked mine to chronic sinusitis, which is also linked to GERD and so at times these are issues that might require some consistent controlling and soon you will be all fine.
If you've had tests and nothing can be found, perhaps you should stop eating shrimp, for sure stop eating shrimp and shell fish because you have an allergy to it and it will cause havoc within your body. Also if you drink alot of soda, stop because it has gas. Also try taking an over the counter charcoal capsule. Take one capsule prior to eating and one right after you finish eating. The charcoal kills any and all toxins in the digestive tract and you will not feel the gas. Also if you have a lot of toxins in your intestents from the allergic foods the charcoal will eliminate them in time but you have to be patient and continue taking the charcoal regularly. Also brush your teeth twice a day, and shower also. If you say as you do that you have anal leakage, you must shower, or use wipes at all times.
Cleanliness is next to godliness as you know. Keep your body clean. Use good soap, deoderants and always have wipes handy so you can clean your privates. Hope this will help you.
Hi again, you know the Charcoal Capsules I just mentioned you can purchase them in any Rite Aid, or on line from Puritan's Price.com the name of the capsules is Activated Charcoal Capsules 260 mg. 4 gr. recommended dosage is 2 capsules after meals. I use them and I swear by them. If you go on the internet and research charcoal capsules, you will find out all the benefits of this natureal thing. They say if you were ever stuck on a deserted island alone all you would need is a bottle of Activated Charcoal to keep you well. It is really an amazing thing. Hope you get well soon, you're a young girl and should not be stinky. And if you've read my previous advice, please keep away from the allergic food and also from beans, if you eat beans, or sour crout alot, keep off it as it makes gas. You can also take CITRUCEL which will keep you regular so that you have good bowel movements. Sometimes constipation will give you the symptoms you've described. Citrucel is over the counter also. And it works very well too.
Hi again, I just noticed that I gave you some advice but the site where you can purchase the Charcoal is www.puritan.com you can get 3 for one and its not expenisve at all. The CITRUCEL is $17.00 at Rite aid for 100 pills and it will last you for over a month. The CHARCOAL comes in 100 capsules also and costs about $6.00 go for it and write us back to see if it works.
Hello everyone! I know it's been awhile since I've been on here but I'm back.
I just want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time out to comment. All of the advice and tips were so helpful. Also sralcia, I've been checking out other health forums as well and like you mentioned there's been a lot of talk about these charcoal capsules. I will definitely buy some and also Citrucel. I can't thank you all enough. I will forever be grateful.
Hi. Well I have the same problem too. So similar and im only 21 years old. I hate living this life. I stopped going out with friends and i hate sitting around people because of whatever smell I have. I seriously dont smell it. But i know others smell it and i can tell. My mother thinks im crazy and that i dont smell. But i know i do seriously. I just hate going to places because of me having bad odor. I cant smell anything around me. But i knoe others can. Its so hard for me to study n go to school. I dont even know how i will work or even date in the future. This is just a nightmare. I am just hopinh it goes away. I just keep praying everyday. Sometime i just hate the fact that i feel like im the only one in this world that smells so bad and pass gas too. It really *****. I've been dealing with this since i was 13. :( its been a long time.
I too like many of you have had this problem since puberty. I’m now 24 years old and too scared to go to college, or to work at one place for too long. My symptoms are;
Bloating after meals
Bad breath
Sulphurous wind
Body odour that I can’t detect (although everyone else can)
Poor sleeping pattern (due to discomfort from bloating mainly)
Anxiety and depression
This is a devastating illness and it really gets on my nerves on these forums when people say things like “just hold your head up high” (Although no-one has said it on his forum thank god). Our best chance to get through this and live a real life is to share knowledge with each other.
So here are some things that I have noticed over the years;
Rice causes no foul flatulence (and therefore I assume no body odour) in me
Bread and other wheat based produce causes all the symptoms mentioned above
As does caffeine, nuts, potatoes, pickles, eggs and pretty much nearly everything else
You cannot live off rice alone as there are too few calories in it.
Charcoal tablets did nothing for me.
Various IBS medications did nothing for me
Doctors will assume you are just paranoid
Symptoms are much worse when I am nervous
I believe my smell comes in strong “waves” as opposed to just smelling bad all day
That’s all I can think of, like most of you on here I’ve tried about 20 different diets to no avail. My next one is going to be a banana diet traditionally used to treat celiac disease. My hopes aren’t high but who knows eh?
anyway good luck to anyone out there trying a new remedy and hope you hit the right one soon
