We just returned from Mayo clinic where my husband was diagnosed with costochrondritis. He too had severe chest pain, not fully controlled even with a 50mcg Fentenyl patch and Oxycontin! He was beyond miserable, very close to being non-functional. for the past 6 months, he has had every test known to man from cardiac catheterization to endoscopy - all negative. We probably have over $30,000 invested in finding out the cause. All CT scans, xrays and MRI's blood tests and bone scans were negative. Once the Pain Specialist at Mayo put his finger on the spot on his chest and it was painful - he said that was what indicated costochondritis after ruling out all other possible diagnosis. When there is swelling with the pain, that's Tseze's (sp?) Syndrome. If you've had similar testing and it didn't show anything that looked like it would cause pain, you might have CC. He then gave my husband a cortisone injection in the painful area and it was nearly miraculous in the relief it gave him. He still is getting treatment, but the cortisone was a life-saver. The pain meds did nothing but mask the pain, doing nothing to relieve it. Get a good Dr. who specializes in Pain Management, and don't give up. CC can be treated with cortisone injections and physical therapy. Good Luck!
I've had similiar type of symptoms like chest discomfort feeling pressured and somewhat something being enlarged for about two years now. I too need some kind of help of relieving the symptoms. I have done tests to rule out heart problems and so on but to no avail. If you find out anything about it will you let me know? In the meantime wish you the best because I know how you feel.
