I had the nissan, my gallbladder taken out, a HH fixed in the very begining of Nov 2008. Well the gallbladder pain is gone so thats good but I feel worse now 14 weeks later!!! than I did before the surgery. Ive been hospitalized twiceTwice-a-day, had everything stretched 3 times now, every freakin test they could find under the sunActinic keratosis Fontanelles - sunken Liver spots Sun protection Sunburn Sunburn first aid Sunken fontanelles (superior view) done most more than once and it keep coming back "everything LOOKS fine" Well Im 5'9 and started this at 158 now I weigh 132...thats not FINE. I can see my ribsRib cage pain Ive lost most of my muscle and over three months later I STILL CANT EAT! I can eat small doses of ice cream and Jello....My surgeon convinced me nissan was a great thing for me. That there would be no more pills (I was on 3) now Im on freaking 7! I still cant go back to work. The pain is INSANLY bad where I usually end up curled up in a ball on the floor cryingColic and crying Crying in infancy. I have some pain medicine but I only take it when the pain is just too unbearable and I feel like Im going to die. I dry heave EVERYDAY and its terrible it hurts so badly. Theres still ALOT of spasming in my stomache and esophagusBarrett’s esophagus Esophageal cancer Esophageal perforation Esophagitis Esophagus Esophagus and stomach anatomy but they took me off the drug that was helping it in fearFears and phobias that it had become a crutch for my body and if I gave it time the spasms would stop....HA HA guess what they're still here the only difference is they wont quit!. I still have a hard time swallowing. even liquids. its a constant fight to not end up dehydrated. My hair keeps falling out from "lack of protien. I have tried everything protein shakes, boost, ensure....I cant handle it my tummy starts to spasm and Im dryheaving for up to an hour. Im only 27 its not supposed to be like this. I shouldnt feel like its a fight just to make it through the day. I just dont know what to do....my body is so exhausted and I just dont have it in me to keep going this way. the spasming is right inside my lower left ribcage where my stomache is right up into my esophagus and for some reason in the last 3 weeks or so my whole left rib keeps swelling up (increasing my pain) if Im on my feet too much or try to do very much. Ive tried gas pills, motrin everything for the swelling its not gas at all and it always swells at the end of the day unless I was too active then even earlier. . I would much rather go back to dealing with the non acidic reflux then this.....any advice on what to say to my doctor?
Before my Nissen I was on 1 20mg Parriet once a day. I was told that I could either increase this dose for the rest of my life , or have the surgery. Of course I opted for the surgery as I was told that the success rate is very high and no mention was ever made of the complications that could occur.
Now, one year later things are worse than ever. Not only have I still got my GERD, but a whole host of other conditions as well. Also I am now on 20mg Parriet TWICE a day and 150mg Ranatadine (Zantac) at night.
This surgery has ruined my life and I would advise anyone thinking of the surgery to think very, very carefully before having it done. If I had the chance to go back, I would have never had it.
After the surgery in December 2008, my recovery was very difficult and painful. It was a long time before I could even swallow water without difficulty. That has eased with time, but there are still foods that I cannot tolerate. Severe gastro intestinal problems have also occurred or been exacerbated by the surgery. I get bloated and feel that I want to go to the toilet all the time. Constipation, diarrhea, stomach cramps and have lost ten pounds in weight, which I cannot put back. I don't enjoy eating like I used to, but have to force myself to eat often.
I see my surgeon tomorrow (10th December 2009) and will try to see what can be done about this, but I fear nothing can. I have heard that reversal my be dangerous and may not solve anything.
They say that there is a high success rate with this surgery, personally I feel that their should be studies to see if it should even be performed at all.
Good luck with your surgeon. I'm doing the same tomorrow.
