In need of some help

Hello, I am a 42 year old male and since Feb 3rd, am having a great deal of trouble catching my breat or completing my deep breath. Sometimes it lasts for  along time, sometimes it comes and skips, or I have to yawn to complete it. It seems almost constant and I am scared. I had a stress test, ecco, lung function test, and have been told it might be anxiety. I dont buy it. I notice that for many years, I have had sleep apnea and often wake up choking becuase food has come back up and blocked my breathing. I have some trouvle swallowing, and ffod seems to stivk in my throat as well as when I take pills.
Lately, I noticed my stomach making weird gurgling/squishing sounds, and even in bed one night, I was breathing decent, catching every breath then I heard a loud gurgle and I suddenly was having trouble catching my breath again.

Is there any type of link between Acid reflux/Hiatal hernia or anything else that could affect my breathing ? I am scared and I panic and its making it worse. Will this condition last forever ?
Please help me ??
Thank you
Geoffrey

Geoffrey, have yourself checked for acid reflux issues. 'High' reflux can cause aspiration of small acid particles into the area of the trachea and lungs causing problems such as you're describing with your breathing, problems swallowing and food sticking in your throat.

There is indeed a link between acid reflux, a hiatal hernia and breathing problems. If you do have acid reflux you've got to get the condition under control with meds and diet. Otherwise the problems will continue and possibly get worse.

I finally went to a Gastroenterologist and told him of my symptoms. He is sending me for an Upper GI, an Esophagram, and a scan of my abdomen. He also told me to take Prilosec two times a day, once in the morning, once at night. It has been four days and I have to say, it seems the breathing has imrpoved ever so slightly. Im scare, or should I say cautioutsly optomistic.
I read on so many forums people have these troubles for years, is this common ?
What shoud/could I expect to find from these tests ?

Any and all comments would be usefull.
Thanks
~G~
