Info request on post op scenario of colonectomy

by esskay, Oct 12, 2001 12:00AM
Can anyone supply me with info regarding the recuperation and complications of a colonectomy.  I am considering having one after dealing with pan-ulcerative colitis since Feb., '01.  have already been thru one flare-up, and feel like maybe another one is coming on.  Have done much to avoid such radical surgery-but with no quality of life, and off and on steroids with all their lovely side effects, and having to say goodbye to my whole family as they go off on a vacation we've all had planned since 6 months ago, I am now open to the possiblilty of losing such a major organ.  I'm just doubtful about the cure being worse than the disease.  What does it look like 5-10 years down the line?  Any help appreciated from someone who is living with this surgery.  Thanks
