Intestinal Adhesion

Intestinal Adhesion

My mother just had knee replacement surgery.... she was released then ended up back in the hospital  a day later due to intestinal adhesion.  We were told due to the constipation from the narcotics....  OK  now my question is can this reoccur.. they did not have to do surgery the adhesion resolved itself.  It was so painful and scary.  My Mom is 68 and just so frightened.

What are the chances of this coming back.  She has ALWAYS had constipation issues so I am concerned and scared for her.

Any help would be apprecitated.

Thanks

Going by the numbers, reoccurrance  of adhesion issues is more common than first-time adhesion- that is, it's more likely to happen to people who have had it happen before.

In your mom's case, with severe constipation being the issue, it seems like the adhesion issue would be unlikely to reoccur, and should she require further medication, a stool softener or other laxative can be used prophylactically to make sure it doesn't happen again. For now, the longer she goes without another adhesion issue, the better the chances that it won't reoccur.
