Intestinal blockage?

Intestinal blockage?

For years  I have not had regular bowel movements.  However, lately it is much worse.  I started on a high fiber diet about 6 weeks ago.  2 weeks ago, I finally stopped it.  Even though I was consuming about 50g fiber a day, drinking 70 oz of water and walking, I quit having bm's without taking a laxative (have taken them 2 times - 1 week apart).  Before trying the laxatives I did 2 enemas (2 days apart) with very little success.  I have stomach pain and bloating.  My pain seems to be in my lower left quadrant, but if the gas is bad, it is everywhere in my abdomen.  I wonder if I have a bowel obstruction, but thought if I did then the laxative would not work.  The pain is really effecting my life.   I don't want to always use the laxatives and I am afraid to keep using them.  Any suggestions?

Hi there, has anyone actually had success in getting off laxatives.
If so, can you please advice whats the procedure you took and how long did it take you to have regular natural bowel movements and whether you put on any weight?
Thankyou...

I have been having the same problems. Gas, bloating, pain and constipation. Enemas worked for me, but laxatives did not. Any way, I went to my GI Doc on April 8th and was told I have a SLOW GUT. Which means my system is processing things too slowly. I had already started taking benefiber everyday in my coffee, that at least kept my stools soft. So the doctor says I am to take Miralax everyday until I regulate myself and then adjust it to where it works well for me. I also was told to take probiotics. I am taking culturelle. I am lactose intolerant, so dairy is out, which means no yogurt like activia. The probiotics put your good bacteria back into your system and speeds up that slow processing. Miralax is not habit forming. Which I was glad to hear. These last couple of days have been a little rough, but the doctor warned me it would be in the beginning. I had a CT Scan, so they knew there was no blockage or impaction. None of the things I am taking is harmful to your system. So if you decide to try this you will know it is safe for you. Good Luck.
