Intestinal metaplasia stage 2

by blueboy50, Aug 16, 2008 06:43PM
I have had acid reflux for about 3 years.  I have taken Aciphex, Prilosec and now Nexium because it works the best.
6 months ago,  my GI doctor told me that I have intestinal metaplasia stage 2-3(Pre- Barrett's)  My insurance company will not approve of the presciption because the tests showed no evidence of Barrett's Esophagus.  I get samples from my doctor every 4 weeks.  In the Spring, I will go for another endsocopy of my esophagus.  I don't know what constitutes approval for nexium, do you?  The insurance has the pictures, and summary of X-rays  from the doctor.  Just recently, the burning in my throat is back, and stomach.  I fear the problem has worsened.
I am extremely worried that I will never get this approved.  Metaplasia stage2-3. I don't understand why I have to keep fighting them on this issue.  I was told by my doctor  that in another month,  samples are going to be hard to get.
I am already beyond worried. Help.
Thank you

Pre-Barrett's? I always thought it was you either had Barrett's or you didn't.

In any case, I would think that a diagnosis for GERD would be enough to have your insurance company cover Nexium. If you can't get them to cover you for it, you can also get the AstraZeneca branded "Neksium" (technically authorized for sale in India and Pakistan only) by going to online pharmacies. (Check out PharmacyChecker (dot) com for a list of pharmacies. These guys are recommended by the AARP.)

A quick recommendation: If you can somehow get your hands on black raspberries, DO IT. Research has come out showing that a compound in that fruit is very helpful for people with esophageal issues, particularly Barrett's.

Good luck.
