Iron Levels

by Sheri__0__0, Sep 28, 1998 12:00AM

What is the cause of high iron level in a blood test (ie:  opposite of anemia)?  And what should be done if one has consistent high levels of iron?
_________
A persistently high serum iron level along with high iron binding protein saturation can be a manifestation of hemochromatosis, a genetic condition of excessive iron absorptionfrom the gastrointestinal tract.  Evalauation by a gastroenterologist should determine if hemochromatosis is the cause.
