Is it normal to have frequent bowel movements?

I have a bowel movement about 3 times a day. At first it didn't bother me. I enjoyed it because I thought it was healthy to go a lot. But now, the 3 times has turned into 4 times. Its to the point where I have to excuse myself at work to go have a poop which is very inconvenient. I don't know anyone else who does this. Most people I know, only go once or twice per day, if that. The only explanation I can think of, is that recently, I started eating lots of protein for a new diet i'm on. Could that be the cause? I practically live in the bathroom! Please help!

Hi there,

If you are having frequent bowels movements and it is actually diarrhoea, then you should get it checked out as you can loose a lot of electrolytes and important minerals through your diarrhoea.

You could have Crohn's disease? and that is nothing to ignore.

Please see your GP and keep us updated.

As long as its healthy stool, its probably from your new diet. Maybe you are eating more fiber too?
If you're not losing weight (without meaning too), feeling sluggish, or have any pain during bowel movemnt, then you are fine. Trust me, most ppl on this site would be begging for 4 healthy bowel movements a day.
