Is it possible to be misdiagnosed...

by AJ__0__0, Oct 19, 1998 12:00AM

About 7 years ago (at age 18) I was diagnosed as having Crohn's Disease...  Now I still have the same problems, but without doing any different tests, the new doctor is telling me that it is just hemorrhoids.  Is it possible to have Crohn's then not have it.?  I was never able to take medicine, because they all made me sick (due to Mallory-Weiss tears in the esophagus).  I'm not sure if I should seek another opinion or not...  Please I need your knowledge to help me out with this one.!!!!!!!!!!
Dear AJ,
Crohn's disease is associated with a number of perirectal conditions such as fissures, fistulae and abscesses. I would try to get
records from the doctor who previously treated you for Crohn's disease or have a gastroenterological evaluation to see if this
diagnosis can be confirmed at the present time. Crohn's disease tends to be a chronic problem characterized by
remissions and exacerbations. Hemorrhoids are common in patients with and without Crohn's disease and are usually more
common in patients with diarrhea.
