Is it time to see a doctor?

21 yr old f. Early last week; maybe sooner, I began drinking Ensure-help gain weight and Boost-protein drinks throughout the day bc Ive been losing weight due to stress and being so busy. Sat. I began to feel "full" even though I hadnt eaten much. I began thinking about my protein intake within the past week and started to worry about constipation. I have never had this problem before but didn't want things to get worse so I bought an oral laxative and about 8 hours later I started feeling the gas in my stomach (I could actually see it moving around under my skin too) and sweating with chills. When I used the bathroom, the first part of my stool was small round pellets-1-3 then diarrhea and major air throughout. I continued to have this problem throughout the week taking the laxative once or twice more and glycerine suppositories which I couldnt hold in. I havent produced much bowel at all and what I have has been mostly liquid. I am scared that because its been a week tomorrow since I've produced a normal stool that if there is hard stool built up that its only getting worse and harder. I am also worried about rectal prolapse from straining too hard. Today I hurt so badly from pressure and the right side of abdomen is hard from middle to side. I know a lot of this is gas and there is probably hard stool blocking the way...Ive been trying to drinks more fluids and eat less meat. I just tried a different type of suppository and am hoping this will be effective even if only a little to relieve this pressure in the right side of my abdomen. Is it time to see a doctor or is there something else I can try?

I would try a stool softener like Miralax to hopefully get what's in there out.  If after a couple of days it doesn't work, I would see your doctor for help with this.  It sounds like your impacted, and a stool softener will soften what's in there so it can pass.  You can even ask your pharmacist as to what he/she feels would work best, they are very knowledgeable.  Most laxatives cause the pain, gas and bloating.  You can also try a bottle of magnesium citrate which I'm sure will get things moving.  Take care.

You can try a warm water enema which may help, however you should probably make an appointment with your doctor.
