Is white foamy saliva an indication of reflux/GERD?

I have been having white foamy saliva for over a month now and my throat has a slight burning sensation in it sometimes. The white saliva seems to be giving my tongue a white coating also. The doctor first thought it was a fungal infection and gave me diflucan (2 150mg pills) and nystatin oral fluid, neither of them did anything at all so i stated to doubt is was a fungal infection since everyone says diflucan is very effective against fungus. My saliva is still white and I am trying to figure out if my saliva and tongue can be related to acid reflux. Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

I have diagnosed with Gerd over 30 years ago and have had the same issues and been misdiagnosed with thrush because of my white tongue.  I have been on omeprazole for the last 3 years and I’m now going to try to get off it.  I will be changing my diet and have added a probiotic and digestive enzymes

Hey, i dont vape but i smoked bongs very heavily for about a year or so and just went through some really ****** times that included 2 emerg visits with a lot of tests. My symptoms were deadly stomach and abdominal cramps. Very very severe ones. I had to get stomach scoped and they found nothing... Initially thougght maybe an ulcer. As far as i can tell ive been inhaling wrong for a long time and have finally paid the price. I have to burp up air often and my spit is absolutely full of bubbles. If youre experiencing the same problems be careful with inhaling and swallowing air, especially if baping generates a lot of saliva, try to spit it out instead of swallowing it if you can.

I have had white foaming saliva for years. I think it results from chronic infection in my tonsils. No doctor has told me the cause. Maybe the white saliva  is not dangerous.

Hi everyone !
I have the same thick saliva in my throat ,
Foaming saliva after eating ,
Did have a white coating on tongue which isn't as bad as when I first noticed it in August 2015
Been tested for everything nearly ...all clear !
Thrush , Pylori, etc ,
Numerous blood tests which are all clear ??
Acid taste in the mouth some days worse than others
On omeprazole 20mg doesn't seem to alleviate symptoms
But don't know how I'd be if I wasn't on omeprazole ?
Just need a step in the right direction on who to see or how to treat this condition I suspect is Gord/Gerd
On a waiting list for an endoscopy by the way
Thanks for listening / Reading

Have you found solution? I have the same problem.
Hello, I have the same exact symptoms, i.e. white foamy saliva and constant burping sometimes the burp is wet or watery. I've had 3 upper endoscopys, one with dilation (stretching of the esophagus)which still hasn't helped. I've had a manometry, xray of the chest/neck area and a barrium swallow test with no findings of anything being wrong. Not sure what is going inn but if anyone has answers, please share with me.

Hi I have exact same symptoms as you, was first given nystatin for 2weeks, I did nothing. Had dry mouth with foamy saliva and sometimes a burning hoarse throat. Was put on Prilosec but ent. That didn't do anything, finally I suggested poss of h pylori and was found positive, doc gave me antibiotics to treat 14day regimen, I'm on day six and still feel exactly the same. It's weird cause these symptoms just came out of nowhere. My life pretty much *****, I've been praying I get better

(Correction, I don't mean to say 'I have this,' about your Mom's debilitating condition.  I mean I have the similar symptom I mentioned.)  For challenging internal illness, it sure pays to get second opinions, I hope you have access to more than one specialist.

Yeahrr, I have this.  A foamy saliva all day that one is miserably spitting into a cup, insane constant burping, and a painful stomach/intestinal bloat, right?  Has she been tested for H. Pylori?  She can 'bandaid' some issues with simethicone, a 'bubble breaker' found in Phazyme, etc.  However, you wouldn't want her to 'hide' symptoms rather than getting an endoscopy, etc.  You can get simethicone 180mg in bulk on Amazon cheaply.  One pill with meals is a lifesaver for me.  (In my case, I think maybe my boyfriend gave me a case of H. Pylori via saliva, as he has a small bleeding ulcer.  Does your dad have stomach problems?  Up to half the US population has H. Pylori infection, especially older folks, and 80 percent of the developing world.

My mum has been suffering with this white foamy/frothy substance now for 2yrs+ she cannot burp clearly at all each burp is filled with this substance not only that it acts like a mini sick throughout the day and night even waking up choking on it. She has no heart burn or indigestion she has lost all sensation in her stomach (including feeling hungry /bloated/full) she has been given the diagnosis of idiopathic gastroperisis and is currently awaiting funding for a gastric pacemaker but I can't help but notice that her symptoms aren't 100% leading to given diagnosis... She's on acid medication and now is on anxiety medication, anti-depressant , and muscle relaxants and anti sickness medication and today they gave her diazipam after moaning that she is choking in her sleep on the white/frothy sick, ...can anyone help me find out what is wrong with my mum, I know longer trust doctors with her health ?

My mom have the same problem did you find any solution.
Sorry your mums feeling so ill and God Bless you for caring for her.   Sounds like she's on quite a lot of different medications.  This may be one of the doctors "solutions" that is by far causing more of the Problems.  Taking different medications alone can cause these problems. Does she suffer from a dry mouth as well, especially at night time? Sometimes feeling like she can't even swallow.. I'd like to suggest 2 things. 2 things that won't and can't harm your mum.  First thing, but her a bottle of Biotene- Dry Mouth, oral rinse.  If indeed one of her symptoms is dry mouth, this can cause eating a meal a challenge.  Saliva dries up and believe it or not, without proper saliva you can lose desire to eat because you actually loose your fasts buds so your brain isn't telling you to eat. Also, it makes it very difficult to digest food..  All this was very surprising to me....   Secondly, this may seem like I'm under estimating how sick your mum truly is, but I can promise you I am now...  I think a big part of her health related to this is that she is Extremely Dehydrated..  She may drink, even a lot especially since the desire for food is gone now, but what is it she is drinking?  This could be a BIG reason for her health issues.. So this is my recommendation and my hope is that you will look past the thought that "she's not dehydrated, she very ill" and just give this seeming less idea a try. For the next 10 to 15 days have her drink ONLY WATER, not coffee or tea or vitamin water or Gatorade, as these are substitutes with water in them. A cup of tea in the mourning or maybe in the evening will not harm this trial, but please add no more then that.  Try to get her to drink
6-8 glasses/bottles of ONLY WATER, Good ole H2O... a day.. Some people say they can't drink water, it makes them bloated and feel sick to their stomach. If this is a problem for her then get her a bottle of Smart Water.. This is not as "heavy" as drinking Tap or other bottled waters and YES it is still PURE H2O ..  Any type of citrus or acid will destroy what your trying to do here to help her.  Please just give the water a try.  Lastly, regarding the "foamies" is your mum over weight ?  If she is then lastly I would recommend propping her head with 2-3 pillows at bed, never sleeping in the flat position and pick up a bottle of Papaya enzyme chewable tablets...  Also, you mention she is on medication for depression, this can be one of the causes for what's going on .. You also said she' also takes an anxiety med snd now they've added diazepam? Or is that the anxiety med you were referring to!  Ok, well, I'm asking you to PLEASE, as simple minded as I may sound, please just give this a try. The water is So So important.. Dehydration can cause un pleasant and un diagnosed problems and is sadly skipped over by much of our healthcare professionals. Best of luck to you and your dear mum, and tomorrow and always, May the Road rise to Meet you... The Sun Shine warmth your face...  Stay Blessed..

Same exact thing for me just wondering if you had any updates or solutions I can try
You may think this sounds crazy and way "undiagnosed " humor me then please, it can't hurt :). I'm not sure what you drink as  for beverages, but I can tell you from personal experience, if your drinking energy drinks, Red Bull, or others .. This may be what's causing your problem.. Sounds minor, I know. When I was told I was EXTREMELY DEHYDRATED, first I laughed and said What? I drink from early morning til prob midnight...  Then I sat there thinking, here I've waisted more money, my time and felt like once again I was being treated as a hypochondriac and laughed at... Not a good feeling especially when your scared!!  Please try this... For the next 10-15 days Drink Water.  Drink ONLY Water... 6-8 glasses/bottles a day.  Please do not substitute with Gatorade or Vitamin Water, ONLY Good ole H2O!!  Let me know how your feeling, I'm almost positive you'll be amazed !!!  You'll be happy and you'll have your life back.   Go get to drinking and keep me posted!! Blessings !

Has anyone found out a clue what could be causing this condition?  I have had for months now and the doctors don't have a clue.

- I have excessive white saliva that I need to spit out
- it seems to get very active after meals
- I was on acid reflux medication but it never helped.
- so I went off it about 3 weeks ago but the condition has not changed
- sometimes the saliva gets thready and thick, but after meals recently it turns into excessive white foamy saliva.
- very frustrating.

I worried 826 ever got this resolved it would be nice know.
thanks

Giant33 have you found solution? I have the same symptoms... Started suddenly. Very frustrating.
Are you drinking any alcohol or Energy Drinks?  Energy Drinks, Red Bull to best of my knowledge causes GREAT dehydration!!  Drink plenty, like 10 bottles of water a day. No substitutes, not Gatorade or anything. Only water.. You are most likely Dehydrated, try drinking only water and a minimum of 6 glasses a day for 2 weeks. I believe this is your answer.  I known it looks scary and sends your mind racing, omg what's wrong ?!!!  Don't worry, 99.9 positive it is nothing that is not treatable and easy to cure. Please take me advice, I've been there. Ended up seeing every doctor under the sun and spent more money on test and procedures, kinda scared me crazy !!  Wish I had that money now, I could literally buy a brand new sports car, drive around drinking my water and be completely HEALED.. Might sound stupid, please just give it a Good Try.  Stay committed.. ONLY Water   God Speed, Blessings!!  :)
I wouldn't think GERD or Reflux but let me ask, do you drink Alcohol or Energy drinks!  Red Bull? Monster Drinks?  I'm not sure of your drinking habits but I can tell you this will happen if you are drinking them. If so, please Stop . For the next 10 days to 2 weeks do your body a favor and ONLY drink water... Atleast 6-8 glasses/bottles a day.  Don't substitute with Gatorade or Vitamin Waters, no, ONLY water. You may think this sounds as a "under diagnosis" but I'm pretty sure your dehydrated. You probably have been for an amount of time and it has built up without you realizing... Because your drinking fluids you would never think all of this could possibly Come from being dehydrated, trust me, I know first hand it is not just possible but it does happen and over a course of time other organs can start to shut down...  The white tongue, foam, saliva... This is all just a pre warning that somethings going on, I know it's easy to become very frightened and then your mind takes off!! Don't worry.  Please. You are doing to be fine and if you do this, by the 3rd week of June you will see and be shocked, happily shocked :) that your problems are now of the past.  Good luck, please try this and let me know that everything's all gone and your much better !! :). Hang in there, you've got this... Now go drink some water!! Blessings
You likely have a yeast infection in you gut from eating too much sugar and/or foods that convert to sugar in your body. The white tongue is one of the most obvious signs of this. Look into yeast candida diets and stop eating food and drinks that contain sugar and convert to sugar for a while.

check your thyroid. Some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism is indigestion, swollen tongue which usually shows with teeth indention of the sides of the tongue. Sometimes the labs will test normal, but the symptoms are there. Some literature points to a sluggish liver. Mainstream/conventional medicine is does not address care for these issues. You are better off with a naturopath.

I have excessive saliva for about six months now. I am convinced this excessive saliva is the reason of my white tongue.

I tested positive for yeast (candida albicans) some months ago, but tested negative for yeast 2 times in the last 2 months. The test was a classic oral swab.

I also have raised taste buds and teeth impressions in the border of my tongue, since about six months ago as well. You can check my journal for the tests I have done.

Did you find the reason of your problems?

Every now and again I suffer from this. it feels like I have a huge ball of spit in my throat that gets bigger and bigger each time I swollow. I usually force myself to vomit to empty my stomach.  I would say that it is caused by dehydration and to much acid.  Not a nice feeling :(

i have this same problem, did u fix it? how?
Stinky breath definitely can be part of sinusitis.  Dehydration is also a common reason for breath issues.  Relating to GERD,  I've read that this is actually being studied (gerd and sinusitis relationship). This is a hot medical topic.  They've found that treating gerd early, for example, eliminates the sinus issue.  Good question!  It may help to start your own thread though to get more responses!
