Ischemic Colitis

I am new to this forum. Three years ago I had ischemic colitis. Last week it came back with a vengence. Terrible abdominal pain and diarreha and blood. They did a abdominal CT scan with
contrast, and it was confirmed. I wanted a colonoscopy done to see to what extent the damage
was. The doctor said the CT scan was enough to show I had it, I would feel more comfortable
if I had the colonoscopy to see just how bad it was. He told me to eat a bland diet for three days,
and he said it usually heals itself. My question is? Is a colonoscopy necessary once it is diagnosed
on CT scan. Also, I was thinking of drinking aloe vera juice to help with the healing. I ask you very
humbly for an answer.

Thank You

No, a colonoscopy is not necessary. Since this has happened to you before, you may want to discuss the situation further with your doctor and make sure that you don't have habits that might contribute to the problem such as taking any meds that promote the formation of blood clots or cause dehydration. You should also find out whether or not any of the blood vessels that lead to the area of colon in question are blocked.
