I am 31 years old and am a traveling salesman. After breakfast, I tend to get a lot of gas, but no real need to go to the bathroom. When I travel, I find that I really can't or feel the need to go to the bathroom until I get to my hotel later in the evening. When I do finally go, my stool is very smooth and comes out like tooth paste. I have a hard time getting everything out because it comes out more like caulk. I end up feeling very bloated and feel like I have not gone to the bathroom all of the way. After going and trying to push to get it all out, I find that I have to go back to the bathroom several times during the day to wipe because of the irritation caused by more stool trying to get out. My stool has been coming out like a thick paste and I just really want to do something to make it stop. I don't feel good and my bowl movements are frustrating and incomplete. Can someone suggest anything? Thank you so much.
AJ, you may want to consider adding more fiber to your diet. It will bulk up your stool and probably help you witht he feeling of 'incomplete emptying.' The added bulk will stretch the walls of the large intestine which will stimulate the urge to empty. You can add fiber in the form of soluble or insoluble fiber. The soluble fiber will also help bulk and it's typically easier on the digestive tract.
