I've had these
hiccupsHiccups for at least 3 yrs now. It's single
hiccupsHiccups from out of no where that come about 3-5 times a day. It's
commonCommon cold for them to act up after eating (whether it be a basic, acidic, small or large amount of food). I'm just wondering all the possibilities. Of course I'm going to speak to my doctor soon about this, but I wanted to know what all of you thought.

If more info could be used, ask and I'll answer
Let us know what your doc thinks is wrong. Is your doc a GP or a specialist?
One acupressure point (for symptomatic relief, if it works) is found just above your upper lip, in the middle, in the little "dimple" below the bottom of your nose.
Press gently (not too lightly, but not too hard) with the padded part of a finger. This has stopped many "regular" hiccoughs.
But, since yours has been going on for 3 years, I'm glad you're going to the doc, to find out the causes.
I think I've heard that phrenic nerve irritation can cause hiccups, but, if this is it, you need to find out what is causing the nerve irritation.
My copy of Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary includes some possible causes (but, hopefully the doc will do tests to see what YOUR causes are). No matter what the causes are, there will be treatment choices!
Some possible causes of hiccups are (at least):
"indigestion
irritation of diaphragm (large muscle)
alcoholism
new growths of the pleura (lining around lungs)
certain cerebral lesions (problem with part of brain)
hysteria
disturbance of the phrenic nerve"
I hope you get this figured out & treated, soon.
