Just had hepaticojesjunostomy (Botched gallbladder removal)

I hope this is the right place for this question. Please excuse my typoes if I miss any.. it's taking me forever to write this, being on painkillers and such.

The big day was Thursday, Jan. 8th. I was just released from the hospital on Jan 15th for what was supposed to have been a simple, one day procedure... a laparoscopic gallbladder removal because I had gallstones.

I'll try not to go into all the details, but the doctor seriously injured me. Before the surgery he told me there was a small risk he could "nick" my common bile duct. So, not only did he nick it, but he completely severed it, and also severed both bile ducts going to my liver. Three total unessential cuts before cutting loose the gallbladder.

I was rushed to a different hospital for emergency surgery...
and anyway, I'm home, if you have more questions please ask, but my question is...

yellow liquid drainage...constantly coming from my belly where one of the drains was... It's been 3 days and we've gone through several boxes of extra strength super absorbent gauze, so much that i can feel it dripping constantly, itching, dripping, wet, constantly...

I called the doctor about it but they didn't seem to understand what I was trying to say, and they never warned me about these extreme drainage.

Any information will be helpful to me.
Right now we have set up a "diaper" of sorts under the hole to catch all the drips, while I have another gauze tucked into that diaper with no tape, since I can't tape all over my cut and such. this also makes it much easier to change since i can leave the "diaper" under the hole to catch access, and change my "gauze sheet" almost every hour when it gets full and soaking wet again.

thanks...

God that sounds aweful and its got me worried that I have a simular problem I had my Gall Bladder removed in april of 2007 and ever since I get yellow bile leaking out of my backside constantly mostly when out walking did you have these symptoms  first at all.

What was the procedure for doing what they did to you were you put under again??

Macbeck, you don't have bile leaking out of the recturm, but you may be experiencing fast transit problems, which basically means you're 'fast-fowarding' your food through your digestive tract because you may be having problems with unregulated bile flow from the liver to the duodenum. You may want to discuss the use of a low fat diet and using something like questran, a bile-binding resin. When bile dumps, it can irritate the digestive tract and cause fat malabsorption, so also check with the doc about that. That can cause 'leakage.'

Just an update for everyone:

It turned out that I had an infection. The drainage was not normal. I had abscesses under my liver that needed to be drained, and I spent several weeks with JP drains hanging out of my side for the drainage.

What I also found out and wasn't in my post, was the first doctor also cut an artery in my liver, which was causing dead liver cells to have no where to go... I had to have a JP put in to drain the dead liver cells as well.

I'm doing much better months later, but I am still in good amounts of pain. :(

Macbeck, it's good to know that you're recovering and doing better. I'm sorry to hear of the 'cause.' That *****, which is an understatement. I hope you're taking some steps to hold the doctor responsible.

Not sure if you guys have anything simular but here in Ontario Canada we have a group called the Collage of Surgeons and Pysicians and it is a website where you can make a complaint if you feel you have been mistreated with doctors or surgeons. Ive reported my surgeon as i feel he also has nicked my bile duct as i have 5 holes instead of 4 in my belly, no explanation why or anything this may 2009 its been 2 years since my surgury and the bile is still leaking out my backend
