Knifelike pains under ribs

Every once in a while I have pretty severe pains under my ribs. It usually occurs on the right side, but sometimes it can spread to the middle, over to the left slightly and to the middle of my back. It usually feels like there is a bit of swelling. I also have nausea some of the time. The pain usually only lasts for 4-5 hours, but the last pain I've had has lasted from Wednesday around 4 a.m. and has continued through today (Thursday). I threw up 3 times on Wednesday morning, and slept all day Wednesday and couldn't bring myself to eat anything. I have drank a lot of water. I have only thrown up once before while I was experiencing the pain, which was after having mexican food. Vomiting does not help the pain, but doesn't make it worse. I try to test my diet to see what kind of things are effecting me food-wise, and the worst is when I have mexican food. I don't know if it's because it has fried food, if it's the spice, or dairy products. I don't normally eat fried food, or fast food in general. Sometimes at work I will have a burger with bacon, and that doesn't effect me. I feel the best when I'm laying on my stomach and creating a little bit of pressure, and the worst when I'm standing. I don't exercise regularly, but I am not obese (20 lbs at the most overweight).

Thank you! I am looking that up right now! I did actually go to the doctor yesterday though and I am getting an ultrasound next week. The doctor does think it is gallbladder related.

You may want to research/google "cilantro allergy."  Some of the symptoms are what you are experiencing.  It's worth looking into since you can relate some of these episodes to mexican food.
