LPL Deficiency

My daughter is 18yr old now. She has pancreatitis in the past but for about 7 times in the last 5 months she is been in an out of the hospital with acute pancreatitis. When pancreatitis occurs she always has a strong pain with elevated Amylase and Lipase levels suggesting a pancreatic dysfunction. Yesterday she woke up vomiting with just a litter abdominal discomfort. Blood work shows no significant levels of amylase or lipase. I thought for a moment she probably has a gastric virus but then the Dr. said when the pancreas stop producing this enzymes she still going to experience pancreatitis, Is this possible? Then Dr. said..She should be taking pancreatic enzymes en each meal to minimize the possibilities of develops pancreatitis. I thought in the past having elevated levels of these enzymes (Amylase & Lipase) is an accurate and the only diagnostic for pancreatitis. Now I am so confuse..... No one in the past told me with the use of pancreatic enzymes she could prevent a pancreatitis. I thought this was used just to help the digestive system when pancreas doesn’t work at all or to help the pancreas in the healing process or recovery process after she released from the hospital. Now the Doctor said she have to drink pancreatic enzymes for LIFE!!!.... We need Help!!!

In cases in which a person is experiencing chronic instead of acute pancreatitis, it is possible for the enzyme levels not to be elevated.

Make sure she is evaluated for autoimmune pancreatitis.

Hi

I am 19 and I have Chronic Pancreatitis...I think you should try going to a pancreas expert! Mayo is great, also there is a expert his name is Dr. Sutherland he is suppose to be very good, never let the doctors tell you that it is not possible for your daughter to have this disease, because it is possible. Its very difficult to diagnose though, but hang in there and dont give up! Anyone who wants to talk about CP i here

Below are two excellent sites to answer your questions.  But I would seek a second opinion due to her age.  Take care.
