Lazy Colon? Help....

Lazy Colon? Help....

I'm new here so I haven't read all of the postings yet but don't know where to turn. I've been irregular all my life from as far as I can remember. I will have, maybe 1-2 bowel movements per month. I simply do not feel the "urge" to go and have often strained to try to make myself go to where I bleed but nothing is there. Then, I can feel the bowels up to my ribs almost and it's like my body wants it out NOW and I get SEVERE diarrhea until the feces are expelled. I'm always bloated and tired and quite frankly, over this. I tried fiber, Zelnorm (from my family doctor), etc, but all it seemed to do was give me gas. I had 2 colonoscopies and they turned out fine. Colon cancer does run in the family and that scares me some. I'm 38 yrs old and don't want to live like this for the rest of my life - any options for me to get things "moving" down there and get normal??

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  Have you seen a gastroenterologist about this?  If not, I would highly recommend seeing one and getting some testing done.  In the meantime, you can try adding more fiber to your diet, drinking more water, eating more fruits and vegetables, and getting more exercise.
