Left Rib Pain/Change in Stool Color

by korbmom, Nov 30, 2001 12:00AM
I've had a pain in my lower left rib area off and on all year.
I've also noticed that my stool will vary in color between very
light brown (like the shade of coffee w/creamer) to a dark brown.
My blood and urine tests out "normal".  What would vary stool
color and what might cause a pain in the lower left rib?

I have no clue! But in the early stages before they found out my gallbladder needed to come out, my first signs of pain were on my left side. the Gallbladder is on the right side but my pain first started just at the bottom of my ribs on the left. Eventually it moved between my left and right side and near the end, I would even get pain right in the center were my ribs meet.
It always felt like my ribs were sore or like my ribs were bruised or something. Everytime I told my doctor he could find nothing. It wasn't until I had an ultrasound for something totally different that they saw I had gallstones.
I hope you find out what it is. It is awful to have something and not know what is causing it.

Hi, can anyone help me? I have been having a lot of pain and discomfort on the upper left side and top of abdomin (abdomen) just below the rib cage. I often feel bloated after a meal, it seems to happen no matter what or how much I eat. It is getting to the point I don't want to eat at all anymore because of the doscomfort. I had chinese food yesterday, followed by extreme pian and discomfort, which I still have today. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

                                     Thank You

I have these same symptoms. About a year ago I started having minor discomfort around my lower left ribcage area. Initally I thought I pulled a muscle. I also was experiencing heartburn about 4 days out of the week. My Doc put me on Aciphex. This cured the heartburn but did nothing for the pain. Since then I have had 3 blood test, an ultrasound, an upper abdominal X-Ray, and an Abdominal CT scan. The doctors still don't have a clue as to what may be the problem. The pain is progressivly getting worse. It started out as dull pressure in my lower left ribcage, now a year later my left side feels like its been used as a punching bag. If I try to skip a dose of Aciphex, my heartburn comes back with a vengence. Aside from psychedelic stool (light brown to dark), and a bloated feeling, I have no other symptoms. My Doctors don't seem to be much help. I am going back to my GI Doc, if he passes along some new info I will share with you folks.

Later,
Fusion

About a year ago I started having minor pains in my left side under my ribs right above my hip. After numerus blood panels CT scans urine samples all showing nothing, the pain has progressed to the point where i can barely take a deep breath.I feel it from the center of my back to the center of my stomach.Monday I went for a colonoscopy. They found a small compacted area on the wall of the right side of my colon. Still no reason for pain on the left side. The next step is a scope through my stomach and small intestines I guess.Im about to give up. Does anybody have any ideas?                                                                    RJG
