Lipitor and Muscle Pain

I have been taking Lipitor for the last 10 years and lately I have developed muscle pains.  I was told the pain might be because of the Lipitor.  I stopped taking them for a couple of months, the pain was much less however my cloestrol level was back to 290.  

I would appreciate any insight or suggestions.

Can your doctor put you on something else for the cholesterol? I heard too many people suffered quite a few bad side effects from that medication. My brother-in-law also suffered from muscle pain while on it.

My parents can't take it either.  They both had to quit taking it due to muscle pain.

I had to come off of Lipitor after one week due to severe muscle and joint pain.  My mother had moderate pain after starting Lipitor. We were both encouraged by our separate physicians to take coenzyme Q10 with the Lipitor.  While my pain continued, my mother's pain has almost completely disappeared.
