Liver Cyst

by kat122956, Dec 20, 2007 12:12PM
I have just had a CT Scan and the radiologist has stated that I have a 14mm hypodensity in the left hepatic lobe that is Probably a small cyst or hemangioma.  I have a small constant pain the my right side just under the rib cage that may not be related at all.

Please if anyone knows are these common?  I am unsure how to react as the Probably stated by the radiologist is not inspiring confidence that this is nothing to worry about.

I appreciated any  information.  Thank you

I have multiple cysts on my liver some of which are quite large and they have been there for over 8 years.  I had them aspirated about 7 years ago and the fluid was tested - they are nothing but cysts.  about 6 months after the aspiration they returned and I have done nothing since.  I was going to have surgery to have them removed, but I never followed thru.  I was told that it is quite common and that most people do not even realize they have them.  I originally went to the doctor because I could see a bulge in the liver area.  I was only 88 lbs at the time and the doctor said that is why it was noticable to me.  They usually give me no problem, but every once in a while if I am sleeping on my stomach they bother me.  How were your kidneys?  The doctor also told me that cysts on the kidneys (polycyctic kidney disease) were common with liver cysts.  I do not have any kidney cysts.
Did they doctor want any further tests?

You should seek counsel from a Hepatologist who is a Gastroenterologist specifically trained in liver diseases. He/she can carefully examine the scan slides to determine whether he/she agrees with the  radiologists finding.
A cyst or an abnormal growth on you liver is not common. You need to rule the possibility of cancer asap.

Thank you for the advise.  My kidneys seem to be fine, the CAT scan showed nothing on the kidneys.  I will try the specialists.  I agree, I need to know if this is something more than a cyst as they have not done any type of biopsy.  The doctor just dismissed it as normal.

Again, thank you

Hi I to had ct scan for pre op for fibroids and they found a cyst on my liver and kidney.I went to a specialist because my gyn thought they were hemangiomas and would not touch me till I was checked out further. The specialist said they see these all the time and to just have a ct scan around once a year to just watch for growth. I hope this helps.
