Liver Enzymes

by betsy1150, Jul 13, 2001 12:00AM
Dear Medhelp; I am a 51 yr old w/f. Six weeks ago I had a heart attach. During my emergency room visit, the cardiologist asked me if I drank which I amswered no. Never drink......Do or shall I say smoked cigarretts. He said my liver enzymes were elevated and that I should see a specialist after I recuperated from M.I. When I went to see my PCP she read on the discharge papers from the hospital that I should follow up with a Liver spec. I explained to her the elevation in enzymes so she took a blood test. Today I got a call from the Dr. stating it was still elevated and that chorl. was 206 so she is phoning in a powder type presp. that will help liver & chols. My question is one of confusion. I am on 6 medicatioins for M.I., never drink and have stopped cigarretts, could the heart attach infact have caused the enzymes to rise and should I be concerned and call the specialist for further testing? I am concerned about the elevation enough to searce the web and ask this question. I am not sure if I am comfortable with the PCP's reaction....
Sincerely
Betsy

I am not so sure it is because of your attack.  I am a 28 year old female and had an ectopic pregnancy in 12/00, I had several blood test because of an elevated liver enzyme, by march my levels were fine.  From what I heard from all my doctors, sometimes they just don't know what the reason is.....good luck!

Some medications can cause elevated liver enzymes.  I would call a pharmacist and ask if any of the medications you are taking can do this.  You should definately get an AMA test from your specialist to target specific liver problems.  Good luck.
