Looking for a surgeon to perform the abdominal organs lift procedure.

Hi:

My wife has a chronic constipation problem.  This manifests itself by constupation and inability to pass the stool without a lot of walking, excercise, Yoga, etc., plus manipulation of the abdomen when she physically "lifts" her intestinal organs allowing the stool to pass.

And stool is liquid!

CATScan demonstrated that her abdominal organs are located very low in the abdomen - deeply in pelvis.  This may be part of a problem - intestinal loops are squeezed, blocked, and when she manipulates them - they unfold and let the liquid through.

We were told that in this case the surgeon may lift the organs, by tieing them up or something like that.

Also, many years ago the laparoscopy showed that there is an adhesion of the intestine to the abdominal wall (4" long) which also may create the folds and pseudoobstruction problem.

But we talked to three surgeons in the Boston area - nobody wants to do anything.

Does anybody know anything about such situation?

We are looking for a surgeon who can at least try to help.

Best regards,

Roman.

As I am not a surgeon, I am unable to comment specifically on what procedure needs/can be done.

Regarding surgery to treat chronic constipation, subtotal colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis can dramatically ameliorate incapacitating constipation in carefully selected patients.  The following criteria normally needs to be met before surgery is considered:

- The patient has chronic, severe, and disabling symptoms from constipation that are unresponsive to medical therapy.

- The patient has slow colonic transit of the inertia pattern.

- The patient does not have intestinal pseudoobstruction, as demonstrated by radiologic or manometric studies.

You can try locating another colorectal surgeon from here:

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

My mother also has this problem and was told her orans were lying on her pelvis.  They told her it is an extremely dangerous and difficult procedure and a doctor would only MAYBE attempt it on a young person.
