Losing Hope for Cure

by MJSmal, Sep 09, 1998 12:00AM

: : I am a 30 year old white female. For the past 10 months I have been suffering from abdominal pain, and gas.  Every time I eat, my stomach immedately bloats up and makes loud digestion noises which lasts indefinately.  This has made me very stressed in business meetings because everyone looks at me like I'm going to explode.  Luckily my BM's are normal. I've been to the doctor and had a colonoscapy with inconclusive results.  She diagnosed IBS and put me on Levid but I haven't noticed a difference. I've tried Accidopholis, Charcoal, Stomach enzymes, etc. I tried changing my diet (eliminating dairy, soda, coffee, etc.) to no avail.  I even stopped eating in hope of eliminating the gas build up and stomach noise but the symptoms still persist.  The symptoms seem to be the worst in the morning and late night.  One thing that seemed to help a bit was a glass of wine with a meal.  I'm not on birth control pills. Could it be Candidas?

  : Dear MJ Small,
: Your symptoms are not suggestive of Candidiasis.  Most likely, you are an air swallower.  I would try simethicoe products.  Itr may be that you need more pills than most people.  Despite the normal bowel pattern, I would still add fiber products e.g. etamucil to your regimen.

I forgot to mention that all my symptoms started after taking 1,000mg of Lysine per day for several months (I was told it would help prevent cold sores).  Would that have a negative effect on the digestive system?
___________
Dear MJ Small,
I doubt taht the lysine supplementation is responsible for your symptoms, unless there was some contamination of the preparation.
