Low Globulin Level

by Chepolo, Mar 20, 2006 12:00AM
I had a lab test a month ago.
My CBC was within normal range
My Anemia Screening was fine
Glucose 100
Electrolyte Panel OK
HDL 32
LDL 130
Triglyceride 118
Kidney Health Panel normal

Liver Panel normal except my globulin levels:

total protein 6.8             normal range 6.0-8.37
albumin 4.7                   normal range 3.2-5.1
globulin (calculated) <<2.1>> normal range 2.2-4.2

the rest of the liver panel is ok.

I'm concern about my globulin level.
Nine months ago was 2.5 and now 2.1.
Could it mean that something is deteriorating?
Should I repeat the test?

Thanks,
Fausto

Causes of low globulin level can be caused by malnutrition, liver disease, severe burns, or severe kidney disease.

However, the globulin is just below the low threshold - it may be worth repeating to ensure this isn't lab error.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Interesting about low globulin - I recently had a blood test due to feeling ill - my results were both globulin and albumin/globulin ration out of range.  The Globulin was 2.0 and the Albumin/Globulin was 2.2.  My doctor asked me to schedule another apointment which I did.  Is there anything different if the 2 are out of range.
