Hi
Blood tests in March revealed that I had a low vitamin B12 level of 173 (norm 200 – 900). Blood and stool tests in April revealed that I was negative for Intrinsic Factor Ab and Parietel cell antibodies, Helicobacter
and Ecoli 0157. Due to the issues with fatigue I self-prescribed an oral vitamin b12 supplement containing X50 the RDA for vitamin B12. For the first two weeks I took two tablets daily. I now take one tablet every second day. I also began taking a probiotic containing 10billion lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium lactis per capsule. By mid May by vitamin B12 level was 301.
I was wondering are there other things that can have caused this drop in Vitamin B12 levels and what other steps can I take to rectify the situation as I don’t want to continue taking such a high dose supplement.
I would be grateful for any information or advice that you can offer.
I also have low B12 but test was neg. Low B12 runs in my family and many of us get shots every month. I have been doing that and my levels stay around 400 or so. I am on a PPI ( protonix) and that causes you to absorb less B12 so I really need the shots. Are you on a PPI such as nexium, protonix etc?
