Lower Abdominal and back pain

by Jorge, Jan 09, 2003 12:00AM
I am a healthy 48 year old male, in good shape. I exercise almost every day. About two weeks ago I began experiencing a dull pain in the lower abdominal area (both sides) and in the lower back and waist area. No constipation or any urinary problems. Doc took a urine sample and said it showed blood in my urine and prescribed a course of anti-biotics. Symptoms have alleviated somewhat but not completely and they seem to come and go with no particular pattern. Doc thinks it's kidney stones or diverticulitis. Everything I've read about kidney stones describes sharp jabbing pain which I do not have. Diverticulitis usually manifests in the lower right quadrant and I feel pain on both sides and in the lower back. Doc wants to do ultrasound or whatever test they do to rule out stones with the dye. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
